Tennessee River Trip, Oct.2003 from Chickamauga Lake near Chattanooga, Tennessee to Guntersville, Alabama and return. 240 miles traveled by SkiffAmerica's #1,2,3 (Kilburn, Bill, Glen)

All photos of boats in motion are on plane at cruising speed. Note small size of wakes.

Glen's drop down curtains/windshield was keeping him warm and toasty while Bill and Kilburn needed jackets. Glen wore a T shirt. This makes a very roomy enclosure and is a very worthwhile addition to SkiffAmerica. This has always been planned for SkiffAmerica but Glen did it first and is benefiting whenever the weather is wet and/or cold.

I expect to provide plans for doing the windshield and all canvas work. My windshield will fold up under the bimini as it did on my 16' cruising dory.

This last trip was one that I have wanted to do for years and it shows the advantage of trailering to the many wonderful cruising locations within a day or two of travel on the interstate system. Most of Nicajack Lake area is referred to as the Little Grand Canyon of the Tennessee. I have flown in a small plane over this area and it is spectacular but the best view is from the water.

The trip began on a Monday afternoon and finished on Thursday afternoon. Not bad for locking thru 4 times and encountering rain and fog and stopping one day at 3pm because we found a particularly nice anchorage and just decided to enjoy the spot and warm sunshine. That spot was where we encountered fog the next morning.

These boats continue to provide wonderful cruising in a variety of locations. Within the last year, one or more have cruised the Panhandle of Florida, Cedar Key, Apalachicola, the Florida Keys, and Kentucky Lake. The first four boats were together on Rend Lake , Ill. as well. Boats 1 and 2 continue to cruise the Mississippi River too.

Another trip to Florida is planned for this winter with boats one, two, and three expecting to cruise together once again.

These photos represent only tiny glimpses of the trip but give some idea of the fun we have been having as we explore and experience Americas waterways. I hope others will be able to join in the fun as more boats get finished.
